Have Tools - Will Travel, LLC Deadline: Sun Oct 19, 2008 Prize Amount: $125
My husband and I are a do-it-all construction company. We build houses from the ground up or fix the house from the roof down! We are expanding into remodeling and repair services so want to convey the range of our business services. Our company prides itself on speedy responses and quality work, so the logo should reflect that. We are green builders.
About Have Tools - Will Travel, LLC
We are a husband-wife team of builders. We do new construction, remodels, home repair and maintenance. When it comes to the job, size really doesn't matter -- quality does. We are green builders who focus on environmentally-sustainable building products and techniques.
Read the briefSubmit Entry
I don't really have any preconceived ideas about the logo - right now we are using a picture of a tool bag..... how lame. We do want to keep the logo fairly simple, however, so we can use it for all our advertising, business cards, shirts, etc.
I will give feedback on all entries submitted. Please feel free to contact me with questions.
Looking For
A fun, catchy logo that captures our company's focus on detail, despite the fact that we do it all.
Not Looking For
No hillbilly cartoon-looking men sporting tools in every pocket, or the usual "tough guy" holding a wrench and winking lasciviously...

Hi JFL -- thanks for your three submissions. Of the three, we like the first one the best. The colors are great. They are still a little corporate or generic to us, though - they don't really say a lot about who we are. Can you do the first one with the second text line in green and with the WILLTRAVEL done like you did the HaveTools?
Thanks for your submissions! |

LJK --
Wow! We love the individuality you brought to the design. It conveys the "team" concept, the green concept, yet doesn't look too "cutesy." To make it even more individual and specific to us, is there any way to make one of the figures shorter than the other? My husband is 6'4 and I am 5'2, so many people in our local area remember us as the "Mutt and Jeff" of building.
thanks for your submission! |

Hi -
Glad you like the concept.
Made one figure shorter, but needed
to switch the position of the leaves
for better balance.
If you don't like the colors, let me
know & I'll post any suggestions...
Thanks,
El |

Hi El --
Thanks for the swift response to the comments. We really like the tall and short figure, and the green background with the white figures is eye-catching and easy to print for letterhead and a business card. One question - what tool is the tall figure holding? Could it be a hammer or something a little more recognizable? It looks like a hedge-trimmer blade, but I'm not really sure. The color of the green text is also really nice, but I think it needs to be in bold or something - it doesn't quite stand out enough. We are also thinking about adding one more line of text with something like "Sustainable building for a greener world" or something less hokey... we are in a very environmentally aware community, and there aren't many green remodelers here. thanks! |

JFL - thanks for incorporating the two sizes of figures. The green house in the center really stands out. The figures look sort of like bathroom door indicators, however. Can you bring more life to the figures? We like the text on will travel better now, as well. Thanks! |

I was asked in a private email if I was seriously entertaining all entries submitted before the end of the contest. Just to clarify to everyone, yes I will be accepting entries until the last date of the contest. I have no set idea about what I want in a logo, so your idea may be the one that grabs us! Please do submit any and all entries. Thanks! |

Good morning sketec - thanks for your submission. The logo is very clean and simple, but doesn't do much to say who we are. It is also very similar to the logo of a prominent real estate company here. I do like the clean lines, though. Thanks! |

Hello Saksham -
I did look at your logo entries. They are very bold and colorful. The first one is very unique and would work great for a large commercial company - it's a little "skyscraperish" for what we do. The second one is also very colorful and is a very cute concept. I think there is too much going on for it to be an easy graphic to reproduce on cards and such. Keep working -- you have a good eye for color. Thanks! |

Hi -
Switched the tool he's holding and made
the small text bolder. Changed the tagline
but kept some parts: to represent the variety
of services...
Thanks,
El |

El -
I definitely like the hammer better. The change to the tag line works, too, I think. Can you try shifting the leaves back to the original centered position? There is just something that looks a little odd with one off to the side. Overall, it's looking really good, though. Thanks for your responsiveness to our suggestions! Sorry to be such a pain, but I've never been through a logo development before!

Hello !
Here is my entry. I incorporated all the required elements in the logo: the "team" concept and the "green" concept. The hammers represent the team, one bigger, and one smaller, the house represents your services, and at the same time is an arrow, emphasizing the "will travel" aspect of the business. The leaf represents the enviromentally friendly concept of the company, a concept which is further emphasized by the green colour.
I didn't make the hammers straight to balance the overall feel of the logo, which is dominated by the hard edges of the house, and also to give a little "personality" to them, as they represent two real persons. |

Hi -
Don't worry about the process;
it's good to take your time and hone
what it is you really want/need...
Here's the centered revision for you.
Thanks,
El |

Hi El - I really like the leaves centered. It feels much more balanced. My main question is can the round graphic be made larger? I'm concerned about using this on a business card - I think the graphic would basically get lost. If necessary maybe we could put the graphic on the left side and the text on the right? What do you think?
I don't think we need the black background version - it doesn't work for our signs or letterhead.
Thanks!

Hi Dextracer - thank you for your submission. I can see that you really worked to incorporate many elements of our company and our vision. I really like the color version of the logo, especially the way you shaded the colors. The main problem for us is that the logo doesn't feel very dynamic -- I'm not sure what it's missing, though. I wish I had more artistic talent so I could be more clear about what I'm looking for! I envy you artistic folks. I can create beauty with a hammer, but not with a pen!

Hi Toni -
Thanks for the revised submission. I'm going to be a pain again -- I like your original colors on the arrows surrounding the house better than the ones on this version -- this one is a little too sedate. I like the text separated from the graphic, and the color of it, but could you make it bigger like on the first graphic? I think the tools were bigger on the first one too. Thanks!

Hi gurljinxed! Welcome to the party! Thanks for all the options - it was really interesting to see how much difference the different color and font combinations make. We like this version the best, but could you make the "will travel" about the same size as you had on entry #17? Thanks!
