Hello,

Thank you for your logo submission. Let me give you some feedback.

As indicated in the project description, I am not looking for a completely new/different logo.

This mostly means that you should try to develop a new idea that uses the current logo raw file provided (data.ai). You might want typically to use all or part of the existing logo elements (probably after outlining the raw drawing).

I do understand that this is more challenging than creating a new logo. I will take into account your submissions that do show interesting features, but please try to submit also something along the lines of what I described above.

Thanks !

The data.ai link provided does not work or is broken.

The link does work. It's an Illustrator file.

You can also see a PNG version here: actu.jp . . .

I am enclosing it here for easier access, saved as a PNG.

Edit: this site seems to have done something to the image I uploaded. See the message above for the link to the PNG file...

Simple. I like the fact that you tried to make sure the logo would fit with a grey background. The yellowish color is not so nice though.

Regarding the tagline: nice touch to add one. The font could be better + the actual tagline (not on the current site) is "Synthèse quotidienne de l'actualité japonaise". I know its long and doesn't fit with the place you put your tagline...

Even though there is no reuse of existing logo element, I do like the font and the fact that you planned for a white version for dark backgrounds.

Simple, classic but effective. I wonder how it would fit in the current grey background from the template... (unless you would like to suggest changing that header portion of the site template...).

The font is not so great... How about trying to use just the capital A and J from the original logo?

Regarding image 13, what did you see wrong with the font? The color or the type? What do you propose I should go for?

I am sure you hae a vision. I based my concept on a font that is associated with news and the Japanese flag. It's a modern twist on aomewhat bewildered website. Since you haven't chosen to enlighten the graphic designers here you will get what you get. A half hearted reworked logo. Best wishes.

Hello Broseph,

Regarding your question about the fonts on item 13: you could maybe get some inspiration from the baseline font used in image 2 for instance?

Also, alternatively, do you think putting the baseline in japanese of the second logo of item 10 on the logo of item 13 would give a good result?

Regards,

Emmanuel

Thank you for your comment phacker.

I am sorry I did not provide enough directions. Feel free to ask me if you have precise questions which I will answer the best I can.

Please note however that I made two things clear from the beginning:

- the logo should "fit the new template (beta.actu.jp)": as the header has a darkish background, keeping the logo black doesn't really make it stand out...
- "Not Looking For a completely new/different logo": which means exactly what is written. Your logo doesn't include a single graphical element of the existing logo (ok, we could say that making the "o" red is inspired from the existing logo...)

As I said, feel free to ask me if you have precise questions which I will answer the best I can.

Regards,

Emmanuel

Hello Sunshine,

For the sake of it, I have changed temporarily the template to red. Please have a look: beta.actu.jp . . .

It is not the same shade of red (yours is probably better), but one might get a feeling of the overall impact of changing the logo background to red.

Let me know if this inspires you any modification of your initial work.

Regards,

Emmanuel

PS: I have noticed the subtle yet meaningful changes to the original calligraphy. Very nice touch!

Yes, I'll try a bunch of variations for you. Thank you for some input. Could you translate Synthèse quotidienne de l'actualité Japonaise into English for me, please?

Hello Broseph,

I am now focusing on this logo (the one above).

Could you try making the red brush stroke a little thinner? This is to avoid it "eating" Actu.

Thanks a lot for your numerous versions.

Regards,

Emmanuel

PS "Synthèse..." means "Daily Synthesis of Japanese News"
